Avanto Care tasked Above with creating a way to gather data from all of these different emerging sources and devices into one easy-to-use platform, to help municipalities and carers gain deeper insights into care and quantify improvements effectively.

Caregivers and staff experience exhaustion from the persistent use of antiquated systems, creating a need for modern solutions. Our aim was to develop a tool that harmonizes data sourced from contemporary and emergent technologies. Our intent is to establish a human-centric foundation that is readily accessible, user-friendly, and circumvents unnecessary complexity.

Municipalities frequently operate in siloes, piloting novel wearables and investing heavily in devices and technology aiming to enhance care, yet without measurable outcomes. This approach leads to significant resource wastage, without any tangible benefits to show. Unable to demonstrate effectiveness to other entities, Avanto Care also sought to create a mechanism to verify and exhibit care improvements, facilitating their large-scale implementation.

We mapped the initial phase of the Avanto platform's integration journey, considering multiple users, physical-digital touchpoints, hardware transitions, and service lifecycle. Our service blueprint was designed to seamlessly onboard the new system for maximal impact.

Dealing with sensitive data and personal information meant giving rigorous thought and care to how we handle security, permissions and data as a whole. We made action points to prevent the misuse of the platform and prioritize security.

We tested prototypes of the platform with members of Sandvik municipality and listened to their concerns and pain points when working with elderly care, new technology and pilot projects to test those technologies. We discovered a lot of mistrust towards technology aimed at improving care, in part due to IoT devices often not considering the needs and day-to-day lives of carers, that can then result in the technology hindering rather than helping, as well as concerns over the misuse of certain devices by management.

Since Above’s involvement, Avanto has now secured angel investment and is growing rapidly into the vision we collaborated on— and well on the path to improving care for the elderly in our communities at the heart of their mission.
