Challenge
With their cutting-edge drone Aerigon, Intuitive Aerial revolutionised the drone market by combining pro-grade performance with consumer-level ease of use. Above was given the task of designing a camera gimbal control unit (GCU) for Aerigon. From the start, our aims were high: to design the first pro-grade performance GCU with a strong consumer focus.
Approach
When filming with Aerigon, accuracy is critical and every second counts. We wanted to make controlling the drone effortless for the film crew, allowing them to focus on what truly matters: creating amazing footage. We set out to design a GCU with intuitive control and flawless precision, while keeping the risk of human error to an absolute minimum.
Result
Above created and engineered a GCU that not only fits the current product range, but also goes far beyond the competition in terms of usability and interaction.
The result is a professional grade piece of equipment with market-leading specs and features, yet so simple and intuitive so that anyone can use it.

Reinvention from beginning to end
Designing the GCU from scratch gave us the opportunity to reinvent its every detail. This resulted in several unique features, such as an ultra-high precision focus wheel that can be used in three discrete positions, ergonomic control placements thanks to the tri-planar control surface, antennae that are protected during transport, multi-position harness mounts for maximum customisation, a fully integrated battery for optimal comfort, Nato mounts in three directions, a large 5-inch full colour display, and much more.

Since 2009, Intuitive Aerial has provided premium aerial cinematography systems for professional use. Founded in Linköping, Sweden, the company has drawn from the area’s heritage and expertise in aerospace technology, developing three generations of aerial camera rigs. The Aerigon series has been trusted to fly cameras on large productions such as Walt Disney’s Into The Woods, Avengers: Age of Ulturion and BBC’s nature documentary series One Planet.
